Rishabh Pant received a Rs 12 lakh fine for maintaining a slow over-rate during LSG’s IPL 2026 win over CSK.
Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant received a fine of Rs 12 lakh after his side maintained a slow over-rate during the IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The IPL Governing Council imposed the penalty under Article 2.22 of the tournament’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations during matches. Since it marked Lucknow’s first offence of the season, Pant faced only a monetary punishment.

In an official statement, the IPL confirmed the sanction against the wicketkeeper-batter following Match No. 59 of IPL 2026.
“Rishabh Pant, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 59 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the release stated.
Rishabh Pant Proud After LSG’s Win
Pant enjoyed a successful outing on the field as Lucknow Super Giants defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in Lucknow. LSG comfortably chased down 188 runs in 16.4 overs with Mitchell Marsh leading the attack through a destructive 90 off just 38 balls against the CSK bowling unit. Speaking after the match, Pant said the team continued to play with pride despite enduring an inconsistent season.

The LSG skipper praised young pacer Akash Singh for executing plans effectively during the game. Akash impressed with the ball and delivered crucial breakthroughs against Chennai’s top order. Pant also explained Lucknow’s batting approach, revealing that the team preferred using two overseas openers while allowing Nicholas Pooran to bat at number three. He added that the strategy involving four fast bowlers worked well for the side.
“It feels good. Getting a win definitely feels good. The things we talk about, of having a lot to play for, regardless of how the season ends, we take a lot of pride. He(Akash Singh) has been working hard. Sometimes, it is harder to give everyone a game. He is one guy who sticks to the plan more often, and it definitely paid off. Really good to see,” Pant said.
“That was the first thought – to get two overseas to open, with Nicky (Pooran) batting three. Four fast bowlers, it has been working for us. The team we have is so amazing. The only thing that can harm us is having too many thought processes,” he concluded.
