Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered an injury scare on Saturday, November 8. The incident occurred during the second unofficial Test between India A and South Africa A. Pant, who was recently named in India’s Test squad for the South Africa series, retired hurt in the second innings.

Pant was struck several times before deciding to walk off. The left-hander was first hit on the helmet while attempting an ambitious reverse hook shot. Shortly after, he took a painful blow on his left arm while trying to pull a short delivery. The final blow came when a rising delivery struck him in the abdomen, forcing the physio to rush out multiple times to check on him. Despite his fighting spirit, Pant eventually retired hurt, unable to continue his innings.
Before walking off, Pant managed to score 17 runs from 22 balls, hitting two fours and a six in his trademark aggressive style. In the first innings, he had scored 24 runs before being dismissed. His return to competitive cricket through this series was seen as a major step forward after missing action since the fourth Test against England earlier this year.

At stumps, India A held a healthy lead of 150 runs over South Africa A, strengthening their position in the match. The team will aim to seal the series win, but Pant’s injury has now cast a shadow over India’s upcoming senior Test series against South Africa, starting on November 14. Both the Indian management and fans will be hoping their star wicketkeeper recovers fully in time.
