Rashid Latif Amazed by Sanju Samson’s 89 vs England in T20 World Cup Semi-Final

Rohit Sharma revealed he reassured Sanju Samson after being dropped, a conversation that gained attention following Samson’s strong comeback in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma has opened up about his conversation with Sanju Samson during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The interaction, which recently went viral on social media, took place earlier in the tournament when Samson was left out of the playing XI.

Rohit explained that he wanted to support the wicketkeeper-batter during a difficult phase, especially after Samson lost his spot in the team just before the tournament began.

A video clip of Rohit speaking with Samson has been widely shared online, particularly after the Kerala batter made a remarkable comeback later in the tournament. The conversation took place following Samson’s impressive performance against the West Indies cricket team, where Rohit was seen encouraging him despite the earlier setback.

The experienced opener felt it was important to motivate Samson at a time when he might have been disappointed after being left out of the playing XI.

Rohit Sharma Shares His Own Experience

Speaking in a video posted by the International Cricket Council, Rohit revealed that he could relate to Samson’s situation because he had faced similar challenges earlier in his career.

“I can sometimes feel the pulse of the player. I have been myself in that place where, you know, when I’ve been in a tournament like this and my chances haven’t come, it’s important to stay focused and try and do the right things and not get frustrated with you not getting the opportunity. And that’s what I felt with him because he was consistently playing for India and then was dropped just before the World Cup started,” said Rohit Sharma in a video posted by ICC.

Samson’s Comeback Proves Rohit Right

Rohit also explained that he reassured Samson that opportunities could still arise later in a long tournament. His words eventually proved accurate when Samson got his chance and delivered a match-winning performance.

“You know, I just wanted to tell him that it’s a long tournament and funny things have happened in the past. So I just wanted to reassure him that your chance will come. So it happened in the game where it was a crucial game for India and he played a blinder,” he concluded.

Samson later made the most of the opportunity, producing crucial performances that helped the India national cricket team progress deep into the tournament and reach the final of the T20 World Cup 2026.
