Mumbai selector Sanjay Patil revealed that Rohit Sharma has not yet informed them whether he will play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil clarified that Rohit Sharma has not informed the association about his plans to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the 2025-26 season. Patil added that Mumbai would welcome Rohit’s participation if the senior batter decides to join the squad.
Initial reports claimed Rohit had already communicated with the Mumbai Cricket Association, while Virat Kohli was still undecided about his availability.
Both Rohit and Virat currently feature only in ODIs for India, and the BCCI has instructed players to compete in domestic cricket when not on national duty. Their involvement in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will therefore play a key role in future ODI selections.

“I have not received any message from Rohit Sharma yet. But if he plays for Mumbai, it will be good for us. It will be a good thing for the youngsters. I appreciate BCCI, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir for asking India players to turn out for their teams in domestic cricket when available,” Mumbai Mirror quoted Patil as saying.
Notably, Rohit Sharma has delivered steady returns for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 581 runs in 17 innings with a strike rate of 90.92. His list includes one century and three fifties.
Rohit and Virat Kohli stepped away from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup and ended their Test careers following the 2024–25 Australia tour. The duo last appeared in the ODI series against Australia, where they took India to a win in the final match. Rohit hit a century, while Kohli contributed an unbeaten 87.
