Irfan Pathan expressed surprise at Sahibzada Farhan’s defensive shots in the final over despite reaching his century.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was left stunned after Sahibzada Farhan chose a cautious approach to complete his century in the final over of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia national cricket team on Wednesday (February 18).
Pakistan were in a strong position at 183/3 after 19 overs, with Farhan batting on 99 off 56 balls and Shadab Khan on 22 off 18. Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus bowled the final over.
Shadab hit a grounded drive for a single on the first ball to give Farhan the strike. On 99, Farhan pushed a simple drive to long-on to reach his hundred. “He definitely has scored a century but taking a single? Unbelievable. Unbelievable!” Pathan said on air.
Shadab responded by hitting two sixes on the next two balls to lift the scoring rate. “This is what you have to do,” Pathan reacted. “You have to attack the off-spinner. It wasn’t there on the first three [two] balls from Farhan or Shadab.”

Farhan returned on strike for the last ball. Erasmus bowled it wide, and Farhan let it pass, thinking it was outside the tramline. However, the umpire ruled it legal.
Pathan again voiced his disappointment. “You would be happy that you have scored a century and that Pakistan have reached 199,” But in the last over, you play a defensive shot, then you leave the last ball. Kamaal hai.”
Pakistan’s Innings Steered By Farhan
Earlier, Pakistan made changes after their heavy defeat to India, bringing in Khawaja Nafay and leaving out Shaheen Shah Afridi for the must-win clash.
Batting first at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Pakistan scored 47/1 in the powerplay, losing Saim Ayub for 14. The innings slowed before Salman Agha counter-attacked in the ninth over.
Farhan soon accelerated, smashing three sixes in one over. Agha scored 38 before getting out, while Nafay departed cheaply. Farhan remained unbeaten on 100 off 58 balls as Pakistan finished on 199/3, with Shadab Khan’s late sixes adding the final flourish.
