Sanju Samson Suffers Finger Injury During CSK vs GT IPL 2026 Clash

CSK face another injury scare as Sanju Samson walks off the field after hurting his finger while keeping wickets against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026.

Chennai Super Kings’ injury troubles continued in IPL 2026 after wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson suffered a painful finger injury during the clash against Gujarat Titans. The incident took place in the second over of GT’s innings when Spencer Johnson fired a sharp short-of-length delivery down the leg side.

The ball moved late after beating the batter, and Samson failed to collect it cleanly before getting struck on the little finger of his left hand. The CSK star immediately looked in discomfort and called for medical attention. Although the physio treated him on the field for a few minutes, Samson eventually walked off the ground due to pain.

Youngster Urvil Patel later took over wicketkeeping duties as CSK management anxiously awaited updates on Samson’s condition.

Doubt Remains Over Samson’s Batting Availability

The delivery from Johnson was clocked at 144 km/h, and the impact appeared significant enough to trouble Samson badly. While wicketkeeping with a finger injury can become extremely difficult, batting remains a possibility depending on the severity of the damage.

With CSK’s batting innings scheduled much later in the match, the franchise medical staff will continue monitoring Samson closely before making a final decision on his availability. There remains a possibility that the Kerala batter could still come out to bat if the pain subsides in time.

CSK’s Growing Injury List Becomes Major Concern

Samson’s injury adds to CSK’s long list of fitness setbacks this season. The franchise has already seen several key players struggle with injuries, badly affecting their IPL 2026 campaign.

MS Dhoni has been sidelined with a calf injury, while Nathan Ellis has dealt with a hamstring problem. Other players including Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Jamie Overton, and even Spencer Johnson have faced fitness issues during the tournament.

CSK will especially hope Samson recovers quickly because he has been their standout performer this season. Despite a slow start to IPL 2026, the wicketkeeper-batter bounced back strongly with two brilliant centuries and has emerged as the backbone of the batting unit.

Samson has scored 477 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 166, including two hundreds and one half-century, while opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad has struggled for consistency.
