“Grateful for the Support”: Shreyas Iyer Provides Injury Update

Shreyas Iyer said he is recovering well from his injury and thanked everyone for their constant support and good wishes.

Shreyas Iyer shared a health update on Thursday, marking his first public statement since sustaining a serious spleen injury during the India-Australia ODI series. He suffered the blow while taking a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the third ODI on Sunday. He appeared in severe pain and was helped off the field before being rushed to a Sydney hospital.

His condition reportedly worsened in the dressing room, prompting emergency medical care. Doctors performed an interventional trans-catheter embolization to control internal bleeding. Iyer was moved out of the ICU on Tuesday and is now recovering steadily. He expressed gratitude to fans and teammates for their messages and support during his recovery phase.

“I’m currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received- it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” he said via a story on Instagram.

Notably, he is expected to be out of action for around two months following his spleen injury, ruling him out of the three-match ODI series against South Africa in November-December. His availability for the January ODI series against New Zealand remains uncertain. Medical specialists from India and Australia are jointly overseeing his recovery, with the BCCI team doctor staying back in Sydney after the series.
