Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill left the field due to a neck problem during the second day of the ongoing Test match against South Africa at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The stylish batsman experienced discomfort in his neck while batting, forcing him to retire hurt.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India provided an official update on the captain’s condition. In their statement, the BCCI confirmed that Gill had sustained neck spasms during the match.

Medical Monitoring Underway
The BCCI medical team is currently monitoring Gill’s condition. The board stated that a decision about his further participation in the match would depend on his recovery progress.
“Shubman Gill has a neck spasm and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress,” the BCCI stated.
Earlier in the match, South Africa were dismissed for 159 runs in their first innings. India’s response began shakily when opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 12 runs. Washington Sundar and KL Rahul then built a steady partnership of 67 runs for the second wicket before Sundar fell to Simon Harmer’s delivery.

Gill came to bat and immediately scored a boundary. However, he soon experienced neck pain and had to leave the field after scoring just 4 runs. His continued participation in the match remains uncertain as medical staff assess his condition.
