Simon Doull criticised Rahul Tewatia ahead of DC vs GT IPL 2026 match, urging Gujarat Titans to bring in Sai Kishore instead.
Simon Doull assessed Gujarat Titans’ combination ahead of their April 8 clash with Delhi Capitals in Delhi. He feels Rahul Tewatia had moved beyond his peak phase and pointed out Tewatia no longer contributes with the ball and offers average fielding returns.

Doull then backed Sai Kishore as a better all-round option. He noted Kishore could match batting depth while adding a stronger bowling role. Doull also proposed Jason Holder’s inclusion in place of Kagiso Rabada. He believes this move would strengthen batting depth and balance.
“They are carrying Rahul Tewatia. I won’t even say he is a luxury at No.7 because he is not. He is a safety net that might be okay to get you some runs. He doesn’t bowl anymore and is just okay in the field. With all due respect, his time is past in my opinion. You get a Sai Kishore in there, as he gives you a bit more. Getting him in for Tewatia allows your batting to be similar, but it gives you a bowling option and a jet in the field,” the former NZ cricketer said to Cricbuzz.
“Holder should come in place of Rabada. That deepens your batting again. Kishore and Holder in, and Rabada and Tewatia out would be the way. You give the rest of the middle order one more opportunity,” he added.
Notably, GT has had a difficult start to the IPL 2026 season, losing both of their opening matches. They are currently positioned 9th on the IPL 2026 points table with 0 points. Their next match is against Delhi Capitals today, Wednesday, 8 April 2026, starting at 7:30 PM IST at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
