South Africa produced a commanding batting display to defeat New Zealand by seven wickets in the 24th Match of Group D at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Ahmedabad on February 14, 2026. Chasing 176, the Proteas reached 178 for 3 in just 17.1 overs, sealing victory with 17 balls to spare.

Put in to bat, New Zealand posted a competitive 175 for 7 from their 20 overs. Finn Allen set the tone early with a brisk 31 off 17 balls, while Mark Chapman anchored the innings with a fluent 48 off 26 deliveries, striking six fours and two sixes. Daryl Mitchell contributed a steady 32 off 24 balls, and James Neesham’s unbeaten 23 off 15 provided a late push.

However, New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals during the middle overs. Marco Jansen was the standout performer with the ball for South Africa, claiming 4 for 40 in his four overs, including key scalps such as Allen, Rachin Ravindra and Chapman. Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi picked up a wicket each as the Black Caps were restricted to 175 despite a strong platform.

South Africa Make Easy Work Of Chase

In reply, South Africa came out all guns blazing. Captain Aiden Markram led from the front with a sensational unbeaten 86 off just 44 balls, smashing eight fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 195.45. He brought up his half-century in only 19 balls, putting New Zealand’s bowlers under immediate pressure.

Quinton de Kock chipped in with 20 off 14 balls in a rapid opening stand, while Ryan Rickelton added 21 off 11 to maintain the tempo. Although Lockie Ferguson and James Neesham picked up a wicket each to offer brief resistance, South Africa remained firmly in control. Dewald Brevis scored 21 before falling, but David Miller’s unbeaten 24 off 17 ensured there were no late hiccups.
