
Lungi Ngidi’s four-wicket spell helps South Africa register a win over Canada in the T20 World Cup after an early powerplay collapse.
South Africa opened their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with a 57-run win over Canada in Ahmedabad. Put in to bat, the Proteas made full use of the conditions and posted 213/4. Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram set the tone with an attacking start.
The pair raced to 66 without loss inside the powerplay. Markram then anchored the innings with a fluent half-century. He guided the side past 100 while keeping the tempo high. Canada briefly checked the momentum through Ansh Patel, who took three key wickets. The finish proved decisive as David Miller and Tristan Stubbs accelerated late. Their clean hitting lifted the total beyond 200.

Canada faced a steep chase of 214 and fell behind early. Lungi Ngidi delivered a fiery powerplay and removed three top-order batters. Ngidi finished with four wickets and led the bowling effort. South Africa maintained control through the middle overs and defended the total comfortably. Canada ended their chase with just 156/8.
