South Africa crushed India by 408 runs in the second Test to secure a 2-0 series whitewash. The win marks South Africa’s first Test series victory on Indian soil in 25 years and second one after India’s defeat in the first Test.
Batting first after stand-in captain Rishabh Pant lost the toss, South Africa posted 489. Senuran Muthusamy scored 109 and Marco Jansen made 93. Kuldeep Yadav was the best bowler for India, taking four wickets.
India’s first innings collapsed for 201 in reply. Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored with 58. Marco Jansen led South Africa’s attack with six wickets.
Second Innings Collapse Of India
Set an impossible target of 549, India was bowled out for 140 on the final day. Ravindra Jadeja offered some resistance with a 54. Washington Sundar, demoted to number eight, scored 48 in the first innings but fell cheaply in the second.
Off-spinner Simon Harmer was the chief destroyer, taking six wickets for 37 runs. Keshav Maharaj took the final two wickets, including Jadeja, to seal the massive win.
This is only the second time South Africa have whitewashed India in a Test series. The previous instance was a 2–0 win in 2000, which was also the last time South Africa won a Test series in India.
