Smith responded verbally, telling Archer, “You bowl fast when there’s nothing going on, champ.”

This escalated as Archer confronted him again. To this, Smith responded with the bat, hitting consecutive boundaries, including a six over long leg. The stand-in skipper finished unbeaten on 23 off 9 balls, completing Australia’s chase in the 10th over.

In the match, Australia moved 2–0 ahead in the Ashes after completing an eight-wicket win. England began day four on 134/6, still 43 behind, but a steady effort from Ben Stokes and Will Jacks pushed the target to 65. Australia chased it down quickly, losing only two wickets as Steve Smith sealed the match with a six.
Mitchell Starc won the Player of the Match for eight wickets and a 77 with the bat. The series now shifts to Adelaide for the third Test on December 17.
