“Feels Great To…”: Suryakumar Yadav Takes Dig At Mohsin Naqvi

Suryakumar Yadav made a witty remark about the long-pending Asia Cup trophy dispute after India’s T20I series win over Australia.

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, appeared to make a lighthearted yet pointed remark about the unresolved Asia Cup trophy dispute following his team’s series victory over Australia. The fifth T20I was abandoned due to rain, but India secured a 2-1 series win.

The comment was seen as a subtle reference to the controversy from the 2025 Asia Cup, where the Indian team, after winning the tournament, refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi. The trophy was subsequently withheld and remains in the ACC’s possession.

This diplomatic standoff stemmed from Naqvi’s political stance and comments made after the Pahalgam terror attacks. The incident cast a shadow over the tournament’s conclusion, creating an unresolved issue between the two cricketing boards. The recent series win provided a backdrop for Suryakumar’s witty observation on the importance of physically receiving a hard-earned trophy.

When asked about the feeling of lifting the series trophy, Suryakumar said, “It feels great to finally get to touch the trophy. Felt it in my hands, when I was handed over the trophy for the series victory. A few days back another trophy arrived in India our women’s team has won the World Cup. That trophy has also arrived back home. It feels great and getting to touching this trophy as well feels good.”

In a positive development for resolving the wider issue, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that dialogues with the PCB have resumed. He revealed that a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi was facilitated by the ICC during a recent board meeting in Dubai.

“I was a part of both the informal and formal meeting of the ICC. PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the course of a formal meeting, it was not on agenda but ICC facilitated a meeting between myself and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official,” Saikia said.
