The ICC reportedly revised the semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026 hosting plan, putting Eden Gardens’ match in doubt and will have Sri Lanka in contention.
Another major development has emerged from the T20 World Cup 2026 as the ICC reportedly made fresh changes to the tournament schedule. With matches being played across India and Sri Lanka, the travel and venue arrangements have drawn attention. The two nations are co-hosting an ICC event together after 15 years.
So far, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, two of the Super 8 teams, have played all their matches in Sri Lanka. However, that arrangement was not originally planned for the co-hosts. Now, under the leadership of ICC chairman Jay Shah, the governing body has introduced another late change as the tournament reaches its crucial stage.
Eden Gardens Might Lose Hosting Rights
As per the original schedule, Eden Gardens was set to host Semi-final 1. However, the ICC has now made a significant revision to the venue plan for the first semi-final.
Earlier, it was announced that R. Premadasa Stadium would host a knockout match only if Pakistan qualified for the semi-finals. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the Colombo stadium will now also host Semi-final 1 if Sri Lanka qualify for the next stage. This will apply only if Sri Lanka face a team other than India.

Notably, Eden Gardens could lose its semi-final hosting rights if Pakistan advance from the Super 8s. If both Asian teams qualify from Group 2, Sri Lanka will travel to Mumbai for their semi-final, while Colombo will host Pakistan’s match.
The revised arrangement has added another twist to an already complex schedule as the tournament moves closer to the semi-final stage.
