Tamim Iqbal unveils a special “Captains’ Card” to ensure lifelong recognition, access, and benefits for Bangladesh’s cricket captains.
Tamim Iqbal, who is currently heading the ad hoc committee overseeing the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has announced a new initiative aimed at honoring the country’s cricket leaders. The newly introduced “Captains’ Card” will be issued to 33 individuals who have captained Bangladesh across men’s and women’s international teams.
The move is designed to address long-standing concerns around recognition and access that several former players have experienced during matchdays. Tamim emphasized that the initiative is a step toward ensuring that those who have led the national side receive the respect they deserve.
“This card is not something very big, certainly not compared to what all of you have given to Bangladesh cricket. But this is a start,” Tamim, a former captain himself, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“There was always an insecurity – what if I go to the ground and I’m not recognised, or stopped at the gate? Will my respect be maintained? I have felt this myself at times, and I’m sure many of you have as well. It’s unfortunate that those who built Bangladesh cricket even have to think like this,” he added.
Lifetime Access and Exclusive Matchday Privileges
The Captains’ Card will function as a lifetime pass, granting holders seamless entry to cricket venues across Bangladesh. This includes access to international fixtures, bilateral series, ICC and ACC tournaments, as well as the Bangladesh Premier League and domestic matches.

Tamim made it clear that former captains should never have to struggle for entry or basic privileges at cricket venues.
“I don’t want to see a Bangladesh captain making a phone call for a ticket or standing in line to collect one. As long as I am here, that will not happen,” he said. “From today, this card is your identity. Wherever cricket is played in Bangladesh, this will be your pass. For you, there can be no ticket that matches your contribution. This is just a small gesture of respect,” he added.
In addition to entry, the card will also offer priority parking and smoother movement within stadium premises.
“I’ve seen captains walking in from outside, even being pushed in crowds. That cannot happen. In Mirpur, the VVIP space-there is no one more deserving than you,” he said.
Health Benefits and Future Enhancements
Beyond matchday privileges, the BCB has also incorporated healthcare support into the initiative. The Captains’ Card will provide health insurance coverage for both current and retired captains, ensuring continued care even after their playing days.
“Once a captain retires-or even for those already retired-they will receive health insurance like national team cricketers. The BCB medical team will be available 24/7. You won’t need to call anyone or take appointments-that will be our responsibility,” Tamim said.
Tamim further confirmed that this initiative will continue to evolve, with more benefits expected to be added over time. “We will keep adding benefits to the card to make it more meaningful,” he said.
