Tom Moody returned to the IPL as Lucknow Super Giants’ global director of cricket, reuniting with Justin Langer and Kane Williamson to lead the franchise’s multi-team strategy.
Lucknow Super Giants are fortifying their leadership by appointing former Australia allrounder Tom Moody as their global director of cricket. In this expansive role, Moody will oversee strategy for the entire franchise network, including LSG in the IPL, Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20, and their Manchester-based team in the Hundred. He will reunite with his former Western Australia teammate, head coach Justin Langer, and work alongside newly appointed strategic advisor Kane Williamson to form a powerful leadership trio.

Moody brings a wealth of acclaimed coaching experience spanning over two decades with international and franchise teams. Most recently, he guided the Oval Invincibles to their third consecutive Hundred title this summer. His proven track record includes successful stints with Desert Vipers in the ILT20, where they were runners-up in 2023 and 2025, showcasing his consistent ability to build competitive teams.
It is understood that both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the owners of Mumbai Indians who bought a 49% stake in the Invincibles earlier this year, were keen to retain Moody. However, it is understood Moody opted to take the LSG offer as it gave him a larger role.
This appointment marks Moody’s return to the IPL after his tenure with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) concluded in 2022. His first stint with SRH from 2013 to 2019 was highly successful, culminating in an IPL title win in 2016.

At LSG, Moody fills the vacancy left by former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan, whose two-year appointment lasted only a single season before he parted ways with the franchise in September. The team will be looking to rebound after a seventh-place finish in IPL 2025, a season characterized by a strong start that faded into a disappointing conclusion with just one win in their final six matches.
