Former India batter Robin Uthappa has raised eyebrows by noting that head coach Gautam Gambhir did not acknowledge Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s impact after India’s 2-1 ODI series win against South Africa. Rohit scored two fifties while Kohli delivered two centuries and a fifty to win the Player of the Series award.
Uthappa said the duo answered all doubts with their form. However, he found it unusual that Gambhir made no mention of them during the post-series press interaction.
“What I found surprising is the post-match of that series, in the press conference, I didn’t see Gautam giving credit to either Rohit or Virat. Here are a couple of guys who’ve batted out of their skins and shown us how good they are and how good they can be,” he said.
“They reduced all kinds of doubts and shut down any naysayers about what they actually can do and will do for India when they are in the right kind of form. That felt strange,” Robin Uthappa added, when speaking on his YouTube channel.

Speculation around Gautam Gambhir’s rapport with India’s senior cricketers has increased since he became head coach. His tenure saw Ravichandran Ashwin retire completely and both Rohit and Kohli step away from Tests during the IPL. The pair will now return in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand from January 11 in Vadodara.
