Varun Chakaravarthy revealed that Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and recently Abhishek Sharma have been the toughest batters for him to bowl to.
Varun Chakaravarthy, known for his deceptive spin, revealed the batters who have challenged him the most in recent times. The Indian spinner named Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and Abhishek Sharma as the toughest opponents he has faced. Chakaravarthy also shared a light-hearted remark about Abhishek, who has been in outstanding form for Sunrisers Hyderabad and India.
Abhishek’s batting recently grabbed attention during the 2025 Asia Cup, where his fearless play stood out.
“Chris Gayle, Virat (Kohli), and of late, it’s been Abhishek Sharma — your previous guest,” Chakaravarthy said when speaking on Breakfast With Champions.
“You should tell him to be soft on the bowlers in the nets. But touch wood, he keeps batting like this for India — maybe just not for SRH,” he added playfully.
Varun Chakaravarthy on Life Beyond Cricket
Away from the field, Chakaravarthy described himself as quiet and introspective, unlike some of his more expressive teammates.
“I’ve always been an introvert. I’m not like Arshdeep or Nayar, who are outspoken and can crack jokes. I have a slightly dark humour,” he admitted.

“After practice, I go to my room. To stay away from cricket, I keep writing. It brings out what’s within me and helps me visualise. By the end, I totally forget that I’m a cricketer and have a match the next day,” Chakaravarthy concluded.
