Virat Kohli continued to underline his superstar status in world cricket as massive fanfare followed him upon his arrival in Vadodara ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on January 11. Having shifted his base to London and made limited appearances in India in recent times, Kohli’s presence generated huge excitement among fans desperate to catch a glimpse of the Indian batting great.

Scenes of chaos unfolded outside the airport as hundreds of supporters gathered, chanting Kohli’s name and recording videos on their mobile phones. Security personnel were forced to tighten arrangements as the crowd kept growing, making it difficult for Kohli to move towards his vehicle.

Kohli followed it up with another fifty in the series and was named Player of the Series.

The veteran batter finished the South Africa series with 302 runs, clearly signalling his return to peak form. With confidence high and momentum on his side, Kohli will now look to continue his strong run in the 50-over format against New Zealand.
