Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary slammed Sanjay Manjrekar’s remarks on Virat Kohli’s Test retirement, claiming circumstances forced the decision.
Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has offered his take on Virat Kohli’s Test retirement. Tiwary said Kohli did not walk away from red-ball cricket by choice. He suggested that circumstances within the system pushed the former captain out of the Test setup.
The discussion followed remarks by Sanjay Manjrekar, who suggested Kohli stepped away from the toughest format to focus on easier options.

“I don’t agree with him. Usko majboor kiya gaya tha. An atmosphere was created such that he had to say goodbye to Tests. He isn’t someone who would just decide on his own to leave,” Tiwary said to InsideSport.
“Yes, the decision came from his mouth, but everyone knows what happened behind the scenes. After knowing everything, how can you say he left the hardest format to play the easiest one just for runs?” he added.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been in red hot form. He delivered a standout ODI performance against New Zealand. India lost the series, but Kohli’s century kept the match alive. He scored 124 from 108 balls. After his wicket late in the innings, India’s chase faded quickly. The hosts were dismissed for 296 in 46 overs while chasing 338.
The result sealed a 2–1 series defeat and marked India’s first home ODI series loss to New Zealand.
