Hardik Pandya switched gloves twice during MI vs RCB, reigniting debate after the earlier Tristan Stubbs glove-change controversy.
The ongoing IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium has reignited a major debate around umpiring consistency, particularly concerning glove-change rules.
The spotlight fell on MI skipper Hardik Pandya, who was allowed to change his gloves twice during a high-pressure chase, drawing sharp comparisons with the Tristan Stubbs controversy from a previous match.
Hardik Pandya Allowed Multiple Glove Changes Mid-Chase
Chasing a daunting 241-run target, Mumbai Indians found themselves under immense pressure, with the scoreboard reading 145/4 in 14.4 overs at the time of writing. Hardik Pandya, leading from the front with a brisk 40 off 22 balls, looked in control despite the steep required rate.
However, what caught attention was the ease with which Pandya managed to change his gloves, not once, but twice. The first instance occurred around the 11.2-over mark, with play briefly halted to allow the change.
Soon after, in another over, Pandya was again seen switching gloves without any visible resistance from the on-field officials. The stoppages were smooth, with no intervention or delay caused by the umpires. Watch the clip below:
Tristan Stubbs Incident Against CSK
This comes just a day after Delhi Capitals batter Tristan Stubbs was denied a similar request during a tense chase against Chennai Super Kings. Stubbs, who was batting in a crucial phase of the match, had asked for a glove change but was refused by the fourth umpire.

Moments later, he was dismissed while attempting a big shot, visibly frustrated as he walked off, even slamming his helmet in anger. Replays confirmed that the request had indeed been turned down, sparking widespread debate. Delhi Capitals’ support staff, including head coach Hemang Badani, were also seen engaging in heated discussions with match officials over the decision.
The contrasting situations have now raised serious concerns regarding consistency in umpiring decisions. While Pandya’s glove changes were facilitated without hesitation, Stubbs was denied the same opportunity in a similar high-pressure scenario.
