Mumbai Indians missed a massive opportunity in the ongoing IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders after a costly fielding mix-up allowed Rovman Powell to survive on 14.
The chance arrived in the 10th over, when Hardik Pandya forced Powell into a mistimed hook shot with a slower delivery. The ball went high in the air toward fine leg, but confusion between Deepak Chahar and Robin Minz ruined the opportunity. Chahar moved across from fine leg while Minz charged in from deep square leg, yet neither player called for the catch. The ball eventually dropped safely between them. Hardik Pandya was visibly frustrated at the mix-up.

Mumbai’s frustration continued in the next over as Powell edged Raghu Sharma past slip. Corbin Bosch dived to his right but could not reach the ball.
In the match, Kolkata Knight Riders is moving into a commanding position against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens after reaching 102/3 in 12.2 overs while chasing 148. KKR now need only 46 runs from 45 balls and look set for a comfortable win.
Mumbai earlier recovered from 84/5 thanks to a late counterattack from Corbin Bosch, who smashed 32 off 18 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Hardik Pandya added 26 from 27 deliveries, while Will Jacks made 14 before a run-out. MI eventually finished on 147/8 after KKR leaked 28 runs in the final 2 overs.

In reply, Finn Allen fell for 8 in the opening over to Deepak Chahar, but Ajinkya Rahane steadied the innings with 21 off 17 balls. The unbeaten stand between Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell shifted the match firmly toward Kolkata. Pandey stayed unbeaten on 42 off 28, while Powell scored 24 from 18 deliveries.
