West Indies star Shimron Hetmyer produced a moment of brilliance on the field to dismiss Scotland opener George Munsey during their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 encounter at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Hetmyer dived full length to his right to complete a sensational one-handed catch off Shamar Joseph’s bowling, removing Munsey in what is set to be remembered as one of the finest catches of the tournament.
Earlier in the match, West Indies posted a competitive total of 182 for 5 after Scotland captain Richie Berrington won the toss and elected to field first. The innings was anchored by Hetmyer, who smashed 64 runs off just 34 deliveries to rescue his side after a cautious start.
West Indies openers Shai Hope and Brandon King put together a 54-run partnership for the first wicket. However, both batters fell in quick succession, with Hope departing for 19 and King dismissed for 34. Hetmyer then took charge, keeping the scoreboard moving with his aggressive strokeplay.
The Windies also received valuable contributions from Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell, which helped the two-time champions set Scotland a challenging target of 183 runs.

Scotland’s chase began on a shaky note as Michael Jones was dismissed for just one run by Jason Holder. Brandon McMullen followed soon after, falling to Romario Shepherd for 14 off 12 balls.
Munsey, who had scored 19 runs off 15 deliveries, looked set before Hetmyer’s stunning effort in the deep ended his stay at the crease. The Scottish opener was left in disbelief as the catch brought his innings to a sudden halt.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan opened their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a tense three-wicket win over the Netherlands, chasing down a target of 148 with three balls to spare. Sahibzada Farhan and Faheem Ashraf played key roles in guiding Pakistan home after the Dutch side threatened to cause an early upset.
