A funny and heartwarming moment unfolded during the IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 12.
Venkatesh Iyer was left surprised when a young ball kid, after chatting with him near the boundary, suddenly attempted to touch his feet.
The all-rounder quickly stopped the youngster and politely asked him not to do so, creating a light-hearted moment that has since gone viral on social media. Watch the clip below:
Limited Opportunities for Iyer in IPL 2026
So far in IPL 2026, Iyer has featured in just one match for RCB. He was introduced as an impact substitute against the Rajasthan Royals, where he played a quick cameo of 29 runs off 15 balls after an early collapse.
In the match against Mumbai Indians, RCB’s dominant batting display meant that Iyer was not required with the bat. He was instead seen stationed near the boundary line when the interaction with the ball kid took place.
RCB Dominate MI in High-Scoring Encounter
RCB delivered a commanding performance with the bat, powered by half-centuries from Phil Salt (78), Virat Kohli (50), and skipper Rajat Patidar (53). A late flourish from Tim David, who scored an unbeaten 34 off just 16 balls, helped RCB post a massive total of 240/4.
In response, Mumbai Indians managed 222/5 despite a late blitz from Sherfane Rutherford, who smashed an unbeaten 71 off 31 balls, including nine sixes. Captain Hardik Pandya chipped in with 40 off 22 balls, but the chase never quite gained momentum.

The innings also saw an early setback for MI as Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt on 19 due to a right hamstring injury during the powerplay, further denting their chances.
