Virat Kohli made a costly overthrow to hand Gujarat 4 runs extra during the RCB vs GT IPL 2026 clash.

In a high-tempo encounter between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru during Match 42 of Indian Premier League 2026, a rare moment of error from Virat Kohli turned into a costly setback for RCB as an overthrow handed Gujarat Titans four extra runs.

Chasing a modest total of 156 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans were already cruising with momentum firmly on their side. However, the incident in the fourth over added further pressure on RCB, highlighting how small mistakes can have a big impact in T20 cricket.

The moment unfolded in the 3.2 over when Josh Hazlewood delivered a good-length ball outside off stump to Shubman Gill. The GT skipper defended it softly, getting an inside edge onto the pads as the ball rolled into the off side. Kohli, stationed in the infield, charged aggressively towards the ball in an attempt to create a run-out opportunity.

In his eagerness, Kohli turned quickly and fired a throw at the bowler’s end. However, the throw went wayward, missing the stumps completely. With no fielder backing up behind the stumps, the ball raced away towards the boundary, resulting in four overthrows for Gujarat Titans.

The RCB stalwart immediately realised the error and reacted in frustration, slapping his thigh in disappointment. It was an uncharacteristic lapse from one of the sharpest fielders in world cricket, and it came at a time when RCB needed tight execution in the field to defend their total.

At that stage of the match, Gujarat Titans were already scoring at a brisk rate, with Gill leading the charge. The extra four runs only eased the pressure further on the batting side. GT eventually reached 134/5 in just 12.3 overs, needing only 22 runs from 45 balls, with a win probability heavily tilted in their favour.
