Yuzvendra Chahal praised David Miller’s evolved batting after South Africa’s 76-run win over India in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match.
India’s impressive run in T20 World Cups ended with a heavy 76-run defeat against South Africa in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Sunday. The match took place in Ahmedabad, where India had defeated the same opponents in the previous World Cup final.
The loss also marked India’s first defeat in 18 ICC white-ball matches since their 2023 World Cup final loss to Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Former India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal praised David Miller for his match-winning knock of 63 off 35 balls. Speaking as a JioStar expert on JioHotstar’s ‘Haier Match Centre Live’, Chahal highlighted how Miller has improved his game in recent years.
“I think Miller would have had that sense of disappointment that he was there almost till the end and could not finish the job for his side in the final. But I would like to point out one thing about Miller. When I used to bowl to him, whenever spinners came on, he would go for sweeps and reverse sweeps. However, since 2022, when Ahmedabad became his home ground in the IPL, he mostly stands still and hits through the line.

His power is such that he waits, and his range, from midwicket to long-on, is incredible. He backs his strengths and does not try anything extraordinary. Sometimes he even hits sixes over cover off fast bowlers. Over the last three or four years, his game has evolved. Whether it is a fast bowler or a spinner, he can clear the ropes with that same swing,” JioStar expert Yuzvendra Chahal was quoted as saying on JioHotstar’s ‘Haier Match Centre Live’.
Miller’s innings helped South Africa post a strong total and put pressure on India early in the chase.
David Miller On India’s Loss
After the match, Miller said that while India are a strong side, they can be defeated with discipline and smart cricket.
“That they are beatable, India come with as I mentioned an incredible team, But I think for us in a tournament like this, it’s about making sure that we do, as I said, I keep going back to the simple things and making sure that we stay in our lane as a player and do the job and get the job done.
We’re a mature team. A lot of guys have played together, and a lot of cricket for South Africa, and that goes a long way under pressure. So I think it’s just staying in your lane, making sure that you get the job done and keep wanting more,” David Miller told the reporters after the match.
South Africa’s dominant performance not only ended India’s winning streak but also sent a strong message to other teams in the tournament.
