Abhishek Sharma admitted that India’s inexperienced batting lineup was surprised by Australia’s extra pace and discipline in the second T20I at the MCG.
Star India batter Abhishek Sharma admitted that India’s young and inexperienced lineup struggled against Australia’s quality bowling attack in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. He said the team was caught off guard by the extra pace and bounce.
Playing his first international series in Australia, Abhishek acknowledged that while India had prepared for such conditions, the home team’s precision and pace still came as a surprise.
“The challenge is that a lot of players, including me, are on their first tour here. We knew about the extra bounce and pace, but still, the way they bowled surprised us,” Abhishek said during the post-match press conference. “They were very disciplined with their line and length and credit goes to them,” he added.

Abhishek was the standout performer for India, scoring a fighting 68 off 37 balls, though his efforts could not prevent Australia from sealing a four-wicket victory.
The young opener explained that India’s aggressive top-order strategy had to be adjusted once early wickets began to fall.
“We planned to dominate up front, but it was a little unexpected for us. When wickets are falling in front of you, no matter who the batter is, you have to play for the team,” Abhishek said. “The wicket was difficult; it was not easy to hit shots,” the star batter added.
Reflecting on his attacking style, Abhishek credited the team management for backing his fearless approach. “When I play, I try to bring the bowler under pressure. This approach has its ups and downs, but my captain and coach have always supported me. They are clear that I should play my natural game and when they say that, it gives me confidence,” Abhishek added.
