Alex Carey struck a brilliant century for Australia on the opening day of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide on Wednesday. The wicketkeeper-batter dedicated the emotional hundred to his family watching from the stands.
Carey scored 106 runs from 163 deliveries, hitting eight fours and a six. His innings helped Australia reach 326 for 8 at stumps. He entered under pressure pairing with Usman Khawaja and played a counterattacking knock to swing momentum back to the hosts by stumps.

Speaking to FOX Cricket after the day’s play, Carey dedicated the milestone to his relatives.
“I’ve got a lot to tear up but no it was, it was great and you know to have, mother, brother, Eloise (Carey’s wife), sister, the kids, it was a great moment and as you mentioned, my dad, played the biggest role probably in my cricket, coached me all the way through, it was great, I won’t go into too much depth but it was, special moment for myself but for the family too I reckon,” said Carey.
The 34-year-old was eventually dismissed after edging a ball. His century provided a crucial career lift and steadied the Australian innings.
Australia faced a setback before the match. Star batter Steve Smith was ruled out due to vertigo. Usman Khawaja replaced him and scored 82 runs. For England, Jofra Archer was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs.
