Australia Squad For Bangladesh Tour 2026 Announced: IPL Players Added, Mitchell Marsh Captain

Mitchell Marsh Admits Bitter Disappointment After Australia’s Early T20 World Cup Exit

Australia have unveiled their revamped squads for the Bangladesh tour, with several IPL stars expected to join after the playoffs while senior names like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been rested.

Australia national cricket team have officially announced revamped white-ball squads for the upcoming tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Pakistan leg of the tour will begin on May 30, just one day before the IPL 2026 final, before the Australians head to Bangladesh for a multi-format assignment starting on June 9.

The Pakistan tour will consist of a three-match ODI series ending on June 4. Following that assignment, Australia will immediately travel to Bangladesh for the next leg of their subcontinent campaign.

Mitchell Marsh has been appointed captain for both tours as the selectors continue preparations for future ICC events with a blend of experienced names and emerging talent.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc Among Big Names Rested

Several senior Australian stars have been excluded from the squads due to workload management and IPL commitments. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have both been rested for the entire tour, while Mitchell Starc will also miss the ODI leg after previously stepping away from T20I cricket.

Meanwhile, players currently involved in IPL 2026 are expected to join later during the Bangladesh leg of the tour. Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, and Xavier Bartlett are all expected to complete their IPL duties before linking up with the national side.

Head is currently representing Sunrisers Hyderabad, who remain firmly in contention for a playoff spot. Connolly and Bartlett, meanwhile, have become regular members of Punjab Kings, another strong contender for the top four.

Cameron Green and Josh Inglis are also participating in IPL 2026 with their respective franchises, while Nathan Ellis was already available for selection after being ruled out of the IPL because of a hamstring injury.

With the IPL playoffs beginning on May 26, the Australian contingent is expected to remain in India until the knockout phase concludes. Even if their franchises are eliminated early, the tight turnaround makes participation in the Pakistan tour highly unlikely. Therefore, the players are expected to directly join the Bangladesh ODI series beginning on June 9.

Glenn Maxwell Misses Out As Hardie, New Faces Earn Opportunities

In another major talking point from the squad announcement, veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been left out of the Bangladesh T20I squad despite being available for selection.

However, Aaron Hardie has returned to the T20I setup following his strong all-round display during the PSL 2026 final.

Australia have also handed maiden international call-ups to Liam Scott and Joel Davies. Scott impressed across formats for South Australia cricket team and has been included in both ODI squads for Pakistan and Bangladesh, while Davies will feature in the Pakistan ODIs and Bangladesh T20Is.
