Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman Played T20 World Cup 2026 Despite Injuries | Report

Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman reportedly played the T20 World Cup 2026 despite injuries and are now in rehab, according to PCB medical findings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical panel raised fitness concerns about Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Both players featured in the tournament despite not being fully fit.

Chief selector Aaqib Javed had earlier raised the issue during a press interaction. The UK-based specialist Javed Mughal examined the players after the event. He identified deeper injury problems. Medical findings indicated that Babar’s injury was more serious than first believed, while Fakhar continued to manage a long-standing condition.

“When Babar was examined, his injury turned out to be more serious than initially diagnosed, while Fakhar also has been struggling with the same problem for months now,” a source revealed to PTI.

Babar Under Rehab Ahead Of PSL 2026 Return

Notably, the PCB selection group has cleared Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after approval from physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon. Some claims have previously suggested he allowed players with injuries to continue due to close ties.

Babar is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. He is expected to return for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL from March 26. Fakhar recently featured in the National T20 Cup after recovery. Both players missed the Bangladesh tour, which ended in a 1-2 defeat.
