Josh Inglis blazed an extraordinary 85 off 33 balls to put LSG in command, but an assault from Urvil Patel, and a composed Ruturaj Gaikwad steered CSK past 204, sealing a 5-wicket win.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chased down 204, sealing a 5-wicket win with 4 balls to spare against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), at Chepauk on Sunday. LSG, invited to bat after losing the toss, were lifted to a strong total almost entirely by Josh Inglis. The Australian opener hit 85 off just 33 balls, with ten fours, six sixes and a strike rate of 257, in an innings that left CSK’s bowlers with no answers through the powerplay. The opening stand of 77 with Mitchell Marsh set the tone and by the halfway stage LSG looked set for 220-plus.

However, they never got there. The middle order crumbled. Rishabh Pant was bowled through the gate by an Overton inswinger for 15. Aiden Markram was run out in a mix-up at the non-striker’s end for 6, and Overton’s reverse swing accounted for Akshat Raghuwanshi shortly after. LSG lost five wickets in the gap of eight overs. Shahbaz Ahmed’s defiant 43 off 25 at the end dragged them to 203 for 8.
CSK’s reply started quickly. Sanju Samson smashed 28 off 14 before being bowled across the line by Digvesh Singh Rathi. Then Urvil Patel arrived. The left-hander struck eight sixes in 23 balls, adding up 25 off a single Avesh Khan over, and put on 81 in just 34 balls alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad. When Patel got out to long-on for 65, CSK still needed 62 off 60 with eight wickets in hand.

Gaikwad made 42 before being smartly bowled by Shahbaz Ahmed. Brevis was bowled by Rathi in the 17th over, and for a brief moment LSG sensed hope. Shivam Dube ended that with two sixes in quick succession, and Prashant Veer hit one over long-on to finish the job for CSK.
Closer than expected, but we got it done 😅💛 CSK move 2 points closer 👌🏽🙌🏼 #CSKvLSG

LSG’s batting effort is a mix of brilliance and massive let down.

Inglis at the top and Shahbaz at the end…excellent.
Everything in between was way below par. And it’s not happened for the first time this season either. #CSKvLSG
