BCB initiates dialogue with BCCI to rebuild bilateral ties after IPL ban controversy and T20 World Cup withdrawal.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has initiated efforts to rebuild its relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after recent tensions impacted ties between the two cricketing bodies. The situation escalated when Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was barred from participating in the 2026 Indian Premier League while representing the Kolkata Knight Riders due to socio-political concerns.
The issue further intensified when Bangladesh withdrew from the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, citing security concerns about playing in India. As a result, Scotland stepped in to replace Bangladesh in the tournament, allowing the competition to proceed without disruption.

BCB Initiates Communication to Rebuild Ties
In a bid to restore normalcy, the BCB held a meeting under its president Aminul Islam Bulbul. Following discussions, board director Nazmul Abedin Fahim confirmed that the board had formally contacted the BCCI via email to improve communication and cooperation.
“We maintain regular communication with various countries’ cricket boards. As part of that regular communication, we recently reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India via a letter, through an email, to communicate with them”, Fahim said, as reported by Indian Express.
He further clarified that such exchanges are routine and also included conversations about India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh in September, along with the women’s team tour. The communication additionally explored broader opportunities to strengthen bilateral cricketing relations between the two nations.
Bangladesh Shine on Field Amid Off-Field Developments
Despite the off-field challenges, Bangladesh have delivered impressive performances on the field. They recently secured a 2-1 victory in a home ODI series against Pakistan. Tanzid Hasan emerged as the standout performer, scoring 175 runs across the series, including a match-winning 107 in the decider.
With the ball, Nahid Rana made a strong impact, claiming a five-wicket haul in the opening match as Pakistan were bowled out for just 114. He eventually finished as the leading wicket-taker of the series.
Looking ahead, Bangladesh are set to host New Zealand in a white-ball series, with the first ODI scheduled to begin on April 17, as they continue to balance on-field success with efforts to stabilize international cricket relations.
