Bangladesh Govt Removes Aminul Islam Bulbul, Names Tamim Iqbal New BCB Chief

Bangladesh Government sacked Aminul Islam Bulbul as BCB president after T20 World Cup fallout, with Tamim Iqbal being appointed as new BCB chief.

Aminul Islam Bulbul was removed as Bangladesh Cricket Board president after a major T20 World Cup controversy. The National Sports Council took action and formed an ad-hoc committee to handle operations until elections are conducted.

NSC Director Aminul Ehsan confirmed that the decision has been communicated to the ICC. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh government appointed former opener Tamim Iqbal as the new BCB chief to stabilise the administration.

Bulbul’s removal followed weeks of unrest within the board. A total of 6 directors resigned, raising serious concerns over leadership and governance.

According to reports from the PTI, the crisis increased during the T20 World Cup. Interim advisor Asif Nazrul had restricted the team’s travel and effectively held the situation hostage. Bangladesh could not travel to India for the tournament. Bulbul faced criticism for failing to act during the crisis.

Tamim Iqbal takes charge as the youngest BCB president. He will head an 11-member ad-hoc committee. The group includes Minhajul Abedin, Athar Ali Khan, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.

Notably, the sports ministry’s inquiry panel presented its findings before the changes. The NSC informed the ICC about the changes. Despite rules against external control, no ban is expected as elections will be held.
