Australia and England’s cricket teams have expressed deep sorrow following a deadly Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney on Sunday, December 14. Media reports confirm that at least sixteen people lost their lives, leaving several families shaken across the region. The incident has cast a shadow over the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series.
Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board extended condolences to the victims, their families, and the wider Australian community.
“Everybody at Cricket Australia and the England & Wales Cricket Board is horrified by the tragic events at Bondi Beach yesterday evening. All of our thoughts are with the victims, their friends and families, the Jewish community and the people of Australia at this deeply distressing time. Our condolences go out to all those affected. We stand with you,” CA and ECB said in a joint statement.
Australia captain Pat Cummins reacted publicly, urging residents to donate blood to support emergency efforts. Cummins also shared his grief for the victims and the Bondi Beach community.
“Absolutely devastated by the horror last night in Bondi. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, the people of Bondi, and our Jewish community during this time. If you can, please book an appointment to donate blood,” Cummins shared in a post on his Instagram.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been strengthened at the Adelaide Oval ahead of the third Test, which begins on December 17. The venue is located around 1383 kilometres from Bondi Beach. Officials in South Australia have confirmed tighter monitoring to ensure the smooth conduct of the match starting on Wednesday.
Flags at the Adelaide Oval were lowered to half-mast on Monday as teams continued preparations. Authorities have increased vigilance around the stadium, with police working closely alongside venue management to review and upgrade event protocols.
In other news, England have already announced their playing XI for the Adelaide Test, making one change from the team that featured in Brisbane.
