Darren Sammy Seeks Clarity as West Indies Remains Stuck in India After T20 World Cup

Coach Darren Sammy highlighted travel uncertainty as the West Indies and Zimbabwe squads remain stuck in India due to flight disruptions.

West Indies and Zimbabwe squads remain stranded in India days after their exit from the 2026 T20 World Cup. Flight paths across West Asia faced restrictions after the conflict involving the USA, Israel, and Iran escalated. This affected commercial routes used by teams returning home.

On Thursday, West Indies head coach Darren Sammy raised the issue on the social media platform X. He said the team is still waiting for clarity on travel and hopes to leave India soon. Four hours later, Sammy shared another update about the situation. He indicated the team had not received updates on travel information.

“I just wanna go home. At least an update, tell us something. Today tmw, next week. It’s been 5 days,” Sammy wrote.

Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies shared an update on travel on Tuesday, March 3. The board said it was working with the ICC and authorities to arrange the team’s return from India. A report by ESPNcricinfo said the ICC planned a mid-week flight through London for the West Indies. However, the team received no further update and remains in Kolkata.

The Zimbabwe players also face the same travel problem while staying in India. One group of players left India on Wednesday. Others are still waiting for new arrangements. The ICC’s discussions with the airlines are ongoing.
