Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth were ruled out of the ODI series with quad strains as India chose to bat first in Brisbane.
Australia suffered a major setback ahead of the ODI series against India as Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth were ruled out with quad strains. The injuries occurred during the third T20I in Adelaide, forcing both players to miss the entire ODI leg of the multi-format series.
India won the toss and elected to bat first against Australia in the opening ODI at Allan Border Field. Australia captain Alyssa Healy returned to international cricket to begin what is expected to be her farewell tour. However, she will not keep wickets in this match, with Beth Mooney taking over as the full-time wicketkeeper.
Perry had recently scored her first fifty-plus knock of the competition during the Women’s World Cup semi-final against India in Navi Mumbai on October 30, 2025. However, she and Garth both picked up quad injuries in the third T20I. In response, Australia added Megan Schutt and left-arm quick Lucy Hamilton to the squad.

Australia, who trail 4-2 on points in the multi-format series after a 2-1 defeat in the T20I leg, welcomed Healy’s return. She had not played international cricket since Australia’s shock World Cup semi-final loss to India in October.
The selectors also recalled Georgia Voll, who is listed to bat at No. 3. She impressed with an 88-run knock in the second T20I, which stood out as Australia’s best innings in that series. Legspinner Alana King returned to the ODI side after being left out of the T20I squad. Allrounder Tahlia McGrath also made her comeback after missing selection in the T20 leg.
