Eshan Malinga Ruled Out of T20 World Cup 2026, Sri Lanka Names Replacement

Sri Lanka pacer Eshan Malinga has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a shoulder injury, with Pramod Madushan named as his replacement after ICC approval.

Sri Lanka suffered an early setback ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, with fast bowler Eshan Malinga ruled out with a shoulder injury. The injury occurred during the home T20I series against England on February 1. Sri Lanka Cricket named Pramod Madushan as his replacement, with the ICC Event Technical Committee approving the change.

Madushan has represented Sri Lanka in 13 ODIs and 8 T20Is. He last played a T20I in April 2023. In November, he featured for Sri Lanka A at the Asia Cup Rising Stars, taking 4 wickets in 2 matches at an economy of 7.5. His inclusion strengthens a pace unit led by Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera.

Sri Lanka will begin their campaign against Ireland on February 8 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Australia, Oman, and Zimbabwe complete their group. The tournament starts on February 7.
