Glenn Phillips Hopes Jasprit Bumrah Has an “Off Day” Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026 Final

T20 World Cup 2026: Jasprit Bumrah to Miss USA Game, India Left With 13 Fit Players

Glenn Phillips praised Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance but hopes the Indian pace spearhead has an off day in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand.

New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips has openly acknowledged the challenge of facing India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah but hopes the star pacer has an off day when the two sides meet in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India’s fast-bowling leader has played a crucial role in the team’s journey to the final, consistently delivering under pressure and troubling opposition batters with his precision and variations.

Jasprit Bumrah has been one of India’s standout performers in the tournament. Known for his ability to execute yorkers, slower balls, and tight lengths with remarkable control, the Indian quick has repeatedly put batting line-ups under pressure.

Phillips praised the Indian pacer’s quality but admitted that New Zealand would be hoping for a rare off day from him in the summit clash.

“Bumrah is a fantastic bowler. He’s got so many variations. He hits the blockhole at the death incredibly well. And he’s human as well. He is allowed to have a bad day, as are the rest of us. So hopefully we have a good day against him,” Phillips told reporters on Friday, March 06 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Bumrah’s Impact In The Semi-Final

Bumrah once again demonstrated his value during India’s semi-final victory over England in Mumbai. In a high-scoring contest where 499 runs were scored across 40 overs, the pacer stood out with figures of 1/33 from his four overs.

While other bowlers found it difficult to contain the scoring, Bumrah’s disciplined bowling ensured England’s batters were unable to dominate him, making his spell one of the most effective performances of the match.

New Zealand’s Strategy Against India’s Pace Spearhead

Phillips also reflected on England’s approach against Bumrah during the semi-final, where they looked to minimise risks against the Indian pacer while targeting other bowlers.

However, he suggested that New Zealand’s plan would revolve around taking advantage of any opportunities if Bumrah makes mistakes during the final.

“The way England played him yesterday, in terms of trying to take on the last two overs, and give themselves as much of a chance as possible. That was the tactic that they had employed. It’s not necessarily going to be that, per se. As I said, a bowler is allowed to miss, and if he happens to miss, we do have to put it away. That also means that if he does bowl well, we do have to accommodate for other things and adapt,” he concluded.

As New Zealand prepare for the final showdown, much of their success could depend on how effectively they handle Bumrah’s threat, especially during the crucial phases of the match where the Indian pacer has repeatedly proven his ability to deliver under pressure.
