Rahul Dravid and R. Ashwin Join European T20 Premier League as Team Owners | Reports

Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin are reportedly set to become franchise owners in the European T20 Premier League ahead of its inaugural season.

Former India cricketers Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin are set to enter franchise ownership in the European T20 Premier League. The new tournament plans to start in August. Teams will represent several cricket markets across Europe.

A BBC report stated that an Indian group, including Dravid and Ashwin, will acquire a Glasgow-based franchise. The same group will also take control of a team based in the Netherlands. Another consortium with South African investors will also join the league. The group includes Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen and Jonty Rhodes. Organisers may confirm more franchises later this month.

Dravid has an old connection with Scottish cricket. He played for Scotland in the 2003 National Cricket League second division. Dravid played 11 matches and scored 600 runs at an average of 66.66.

Meanwhile, Ashwin’s role as a franchise owner also raises the possibility of a playing comeback. The off-spinner had earlier signed to play for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League. A knee injury during training in Chennai last December forced him to withdraw. Ashwin later underwent surgery and continues rehabilitation. His fitness for the ETPL remains uncertain, but his ownership role has already increased interest before the league begins.
