India Beat England by 7 Runs in T20 World Cup Semi-Final, Set Up Final vs New Zealand

Jacob Bethell’s century went in vain as India defended 253 to defeat England by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final.

India secured a place in the T20 World Cup 2026 final after defeating England by 7 runs in the semi-final. The match saw 499 runs across two innings at Wankhede Stadium.

In the first innings, India produced a huge batting performance to post 253/7. The total became the highest ever in a T20 World Cup semi-final. Sanju Samson led the innings with 89 runs. His knock matched India’s highest individual score in a T20 World Cup semi-final.

Shivam Dube supported him with 43 from 25 balls and kept the scoring rate high. India maintained a run rate above 12 through most of the innings. Dube survived an LBW review earlier but later fell run out after confusion with Hardik Pandya. Ishan Kishan(39) also played aggressively before Adil Rashid dismissed him. Suryakumar Yadav lost his wicket after a stumping chance. Samson later fell for 89 while attacking in the deep. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma finished strongly to push India to 253.

England responded with an aggressive chase led by Jacob Bethell(105), who scored a brilliant century. England required 34 runs from the final 3 overs. India’s bowlers held their nerve in the closing stages. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya delivered crucial overs under pressure.

Pandya removed Sam Curran, who scored 5, with Tilak Varma completing the catch at long-on. Earlier, Axar Patel and Shivam Dube produced a relay catch to dismiss Will Jacks(35). Jacks had added 77 with Bethell. Axar also dismissed Tom Banton after earlier hitting 2 sixes. Varun Chakaravarthy bowled Jos Buttler(25) after conceding 3 sixes. Pandya had earlier also removed Phil Salt in the second over.

India will now face New Zealand in Ahmedabad on March 8th.
