India Fined For Slow Over-Rate in 2nd ODI Against South Africa

The Indian team has been penalised 10% of its match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the recent ODI in Raipur.

The Indian cricket team has been fined for a slow over-rate during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. Each player has been penalised 10% of their match fee.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) found India to be two overs short of the required target. The sanction was imposed according to the ICC’s Code of Conduct.

ICC Over-Rate Rule Explained

The rule states players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their side falls short. As India was two overs behind, the 10% fine was applied. The ICC confirmed the charge in a press release.

“India have been charged in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences,” read ICC’s press release.

Captain KL Rahul accepted the proposed sanction, so a formal hearing was not required. Despite the slow over-rate, South Africa won that particular match.

India, however, went on to win the three-match series 2-1. In a separate incident earlier in the series, seamer Harshit Rana was also fined 10% of his match fee for a send-off in the first ODI.
