India T20 World Cup 2026 Squad to Mirror New Zealand Series Selection: Report

T20 World Cup 2026: Opener and Final in Ahmedabad, Semifinal in Mumbai | Reports

The BCCI confirmed India T20 World Cup squad will largely replicate the team selected for the New Zealand T20I series.

India’s squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup will be identical to the team chosen for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. The tournament is scheduled from February 7 to March 8 across subcontinental venues.

Teams must submit their final 15-member squads one month before the ICC event begins. The selection committee can make changes until the ICC’s deadline.

Selection Strategy and Continuity for India

A BCCI source confirmed the selection approach of India, emphasizing continuity given the limited preparation time.

“With only 10 T20Is left before the T20 World Cup, you won’t see many changes happening in the squad proper unless someone is ruled out due to any specific injury. One of the biggest reasons being continuity and the 15 chosen for the series against the Black Caps won’t be tinkered with because of the short turnaround time,” stated the source, as quoted by NDTV Sports.

The upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa will serve as the final testing opportunity for coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav. This approach mirrors the selection strategy used before India’s victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.

The New Zealand T20I series will be played across five venues: Nagpur (January 21), Raipur (January 23), Guwahati (January 25), Vizag (January 28) and Trivandrum (January 31). Three ODIs will precede the T20 matches.
