BCCI To Announce India Squad For South Africa ODIs on January 3: Report

The national selection committee, BCCI, convened to pick India’s ODI squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand on January 3.

The Indian men’s cricket team will face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series beginning January 11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the squad for the matches in Vadodara (January 11), Rajkot (January 14), and Indore (January 18).

According to a TOI report, the senior men’s selection committee will announce the squad on Saturday, January 3. “The national selection committee, headed by (former India pacer) Ajit Agarkar, will hold an online meeting on Jan 3 to pick the squad,” a BCCI source said.

India last played an ODI series in early December 2025, winning against South Africa under KL Rahul’s leadership. For the upcoming series, Shubman Gill will captain the side. Gill was appointed ODI captain in October 2025 but missed the South Africa series due to a neck injury. He has since recovered and played in recent T20Is.

As per available information, selectors will rest all-rounder Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for this series. Both players featured in the recent T20I series and are part of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 plans.

Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who is recovering from an injury, was in line to return but his comeback is delayed. He will undergo further rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
