Sanju Samson(89), Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave India a flying start. The opening pair quickly built momentum in the early overs. India reached 50 rapidly and then collected 92 runs during the Powerplay. The team crossed 100 within 8 overs.

Abhishek Sharma returned to form with a rapid half-century. He reached the milestone in 18 balls before departing for 52. Samson continued the strong start and recorded another fifty. The right-hander now has 3 consecutive fifties in the tournament.
Ishan Kishan also produced a quick innings. He completed his half-century in 23 balls and shared a century partnership with Samson. India crossed 150 in the 12th over and later moved past 200 with 5 overs remaining.
New Zealand briefly fought back through Jimmy Neesham. The all-rounder removed Samson, Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the same over. Suryakumar departed for a golden duck. Hardik Pandya also lost his wicket during the middle phase.
India slowed for a short period without boundaries for 16 balls. Tilak Varma and Pandya broke the dry spell with a four and a six. Shivam Dube then changed the pace of scoring. He hit 24 runs in the final over to lift India to 255 for 5.
