Former India captains MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma shared a special moment before the T20 World Cup 2026 final. The duo carried the tournament trophy onto the field during the pre-match ceremony at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8.
Dhoni had led India to the T20 World Cup title in 2007. Rohit Sharma captained the team to another win in 2024. Their appearance together highlighted India’s two successful eras in the tournament. ICC chairman Jay Shah also joined the captains during the ceremony.

Earlier in the tournament, Dhoni and Rohit had also met during the semi-final in Mumbai.

In the ongoing match, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to field. India will bat first in the title match. The Indian team kept the same playing XI for the match.
India still seeks their first T20 World Cup win against New Zealand. The Black Caps won previous meetings in 2007, 2016 and 2021. India reached the final after beating England. New Zealand advanced after defeating South Africa.
