T20 World Cup | India Defeats Pakistan by 61 Runs, Becomes First Team to Reach Super 8s

India secured a win over Pakistan by 61 runs, becoming the second team to go into the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2026.

India secured a win over Pakistan by 61 runs in Colombo to confirm a Super 8 spot and extend their T20 World Cup winning streak. Pakistan, chasing 176, collapsed to 114 all out in 18 overs. India now leads the head-to-head record 8-1 in the tournament.

For India, Hardik Pandya sealed the win with the final wicket. Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy took two wickets each. Pakistan lost four wickets in the Powerplay and slipped to 13/3 after captain Salman Ali Agha fell after hitting a boundary. Sahibzada Farhan went for 0, while Bumrah removed Saim Ayub(6) with a yorker. Axar later stumped Usman Khan, who fell six runs short of a fifty. Shadab Khan(14) fought briefly as the asking rate climbed near 10.

Notably, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi was seen leaving the R. Premadasa Stadium during the defeat.

Earlier, in the first innings, India posted 175/7, the highest India-Pakistan total in T20 World Cups. Ishan Kishan hit 77 off 40 balls and reached his fifty in 27 deliveries. Abhishek Sharma fell for 0. Suryakumar Yadav(32), Tilak Varma(25), Shivam Dube(27) and Rinku Singh(11) added key runs. India lost Tilak and Hardik in successive balls after the interval. For Pakistan, Usman Tariq impressed with 4/24, while Pakistan’s fielding errors conceded extra boundaries.
