Ex-Pakistan Coach Jason Gillespie Declines India Test Coaching Role

Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie has dismissed suggestions of coaching India’s Test team, responding with a brief refusal.

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie has ruled out the possibility of coaching India’s Test side. India has faced recent struggles in red-ball cricket despite strong white-ball results under head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Gillespie, who worked as Pakistan’s head coach in 2024 from April to December, addressed the topic on social media. A fan urged him to take charge after India suffered two home whitewashes. Gillespie clearly rejected the suggestion.

“Jason, you need to coach India now because they are not just losing but getting whitewashed at home twice. They need you seriously,” the X user wrote.

“No thanks,” Gillespie replied.

Notably, India got difficult results in home Tests during 2024. They suffered a 3-0 series defeat against South Africa. Later, New Zealand secured a 2-0 series win in India. The results leave India fourth in the ICC Test team rankings. They also sit sixth in the World Test Championship standings for the 2025–2027 cycle.

In their next assignment, India will play three ODIs and five T20Is against New Zealand this month. The T20 World Cup begins on February 7. India returns to Tests in August 2026 with two matches in Sri Lanka.
