Jemimah Rodrigues To Lead Delhi Capitals In Women’s Premier League – Reports

Jemimah Rodrigues might be named as the captain of DC-W for the WPL 2026 edition.

Jemimah Rodrigues is expected to be named the new captain of the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming Women’s Premier League season.

The move follows the franchise’s decision to release former captain Meg Lanning ahead of the recent auction. Rodrigues, who was the team’s vice-captain, was retained as a core part of their plans. Her promotion comes after she played a starring role in India’s recent World Cup victory.

“We are very clear we want an Indian as captain. We have our minds made up,” DC co-owner Parth Jindal had said during the auction.

Rodrigues has been a central figure for Delhi since the WPL began. The franchise made her their first-ever auction pick in 2023 and she was their first retention for the new cycle. The other players Delhi kept were Shafali Verma, Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp, and young captain Niki Prasad.

The team attempted to buy back Meg Lanning at the auction but were outbid by UP Warriorz. This made Rodrigues’ appointment as the new skipper a natural next step.

Her leadership role follows a superb World Cup for India, where her match-winning century against Australia in the semi-final was a highlight. For Delhi, she has been a consistent presence, playing all 27 matches across the first three WPL seasons.
