Matheesha Pathirana Limps Off with Suspected Hamstring Injury vs Australia

Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana has left the field with a suspected hamstring injury during the ongoing T20 World Cup match against Australia.

Sri Lanka suffered an injury scare during their ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 match against Australia in Pallekele after fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana left the field mid-spell. Pathirana pulled up in pain while completing his follow-through on the fourth ball of his opening over. He fell to the ground, clutching his left leg and received immediate treatment.

Pathirana could not continue and walked off with assistance. Captain Dasun Shanaka stepped in to bowl the remaining two deliveries.

There has been no immediate update from team management. Any extended absence would weaken Sri Lanka’s attack, especially with Wanindu Hasaranga already ruled out.

In the ongoing match, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to field. Mitchell Marsh returned to the XI and joined Travis Head for a strong start. The pair added 104 runs for the first wicket. Head led the charge with 56 off 29 balls before Dushan Hemantha broke the stand.

Then, three wickets fell in quick succession. Disciplined bowling from Sri Lanka kept the scoring under control in the final overs. Australia closed on 181 in 20 overs. Sri Lanka now needs 182 to win.
